Oh my gosh. I can't even. Am I back? Who's to say. I haven't uploaded a full video since January. I went months without ever opening Vegas. I started this video back in February and swore I'd at least get it out by April (reasonable, right?) for a birthday present. Where did the time go?

Firstly, grad school is a bitch. I love the work, but it becomes all consuming. At the end of a long day, all I want to do is passive hobbies like reading and watching TV. I don't have it in me to vid, knowing that it takes so much of my time, effort, attention to detail, and creative juices.

Secondly, I'm on summer vacation. That means I have a LOT more time to vid, but it also means I'm spending that precious free time hard core relaxing and vacationing. Went to Hawaii for a while. When I got back, I swore I'd spend the rest of the summer vidding but the hot temperatures have fried my brain a bit. 

Thirdly, I was having a lot of trouble with Vegas after the most recent software update. It had my preview window lagging hardcore until I figured out what settings to change. So that deincentivized me for a while.

So, all in all, I've finally put something together and released it to the world! It was an incredibly unique vidding experience. I have never edited an animated show before, and it does feel significantly different. There is so much artistry in the original frames that I am very cautious against using any kind of effects or coloring - so it's really all about timing, lyrics, themes, and content. Not to mention this is a fandom I've never vidded before and that's always an intense memory and creativity exercise searching for scenes, quotes, and parallels.
 
The process for editing this video was entirely about the lyrics - nothing more. Taylor Swift wrote a beautiful piece about the impact of addiction on wider spheres of life and relationships, the same themes covered by Bojack Horseman. All I had to do was match the two together and find parallels, and to be honest, editing to lyrics might be my favorite kind of editing.

Also Gabriella is a literal sunshine of a character and I've idolized her since I was a kid. I've edited this for The Happiness Project's Nostalgia Challenge!
