Skins (seasons 1-7) - Boom! Clap!
September, 2014
Fandom: Skins
Song: Boom Clap by Charli XCX
Description:
This was both really easy and really difficult to make. Easy because Skins has so many beautiful and fun shots to choose from, and difficult to narrow them down. There's a ton of teen dramas out there, and I'm not saying they all suck, but cinematically none of them have substance. The great thing about Skins is in addition to it being aimed at teenagers, it has such a strong visual sparkle. Therefore it's adult level cinematography and just general excellence mixed with the energy of youth... and it's fantastic.

So, in contrast to my last two posts, this video was NOT done "blind." My laptop was getting used to my
program a LITTLE, but not really. I realized what was making the laptop
so slow were those crossfades in between clips. It was a very frustrating realization, as crossfades were clearly central to my videos. In this video, they are
nonexistent. I listened to the song and thought "Hmm... I could make
this work if I just faded each clip in and out so they don't overlap..."
and that fixed it!!! My laptop was cooperating!! Timing wasn't perfect, but really, it puts
things in perspective. Sometimes I feel like I'm not a very talented vidder, but
then I remind myself that I am very strong narratively and analytically. While I'm not as technically strong, I remember the huge difference
technology makes and how much it can handicap or excel you. This also turned out to be a silver lining because, from here on out, I became more creative with my transitions and not so quick to doing quick crossfades.
I'm doing just fine for what I've got. I'm proud of this video and still think it's a good one to this day.
